Now is the time

Dear Concerned Designer,

This is Greg Swanson and I approve this message:
We are but a few short days away from an annual workshop that will display the brightest minds and best ideas our branch of the journalism industry has to offer.
As you look at the counter on this page and it passes 130,000 views I feel we've hit a mandate. In short, you want Change.
When your wheels touch down in Las Vegas be sure to ask the tough questions of the candidates. Hold them accountable. If you feel uncertain, please watch my video again. If you connect with it a calm will wash over you. Just keep telling yourself "I'm gonna be OK. We're gonna be OK. Journalism is gonna be OK."
You know why? Because it's true.
Godspeed and safe travels.
Enjoy Vegas.

Don't make the wrong choice

As you can see, more than 90,000 concerned designers have viewed our groundbreaking video. Some may say "Geez, Greg, is this good for the organization? For America?"
The answer, of course, is absolutely. Unless you're an atheist. Or Republican.
Without us pushing back who's left to hold the likes of Steve Dorsey and Don Wittekind accountable? If that answer comes slowly or is uncomfortable for you then you know why our movement is important.
Sure, Steve is about as nice as they come. A talented designer and leader. A man who truly gets it. But is that what SND needs? I mean really, they have Matt Mansfield.
Oh, and speaking of Matt, many of you have phoned in and asked about the off-handed comment in the video. Most refer to it as "sports bra."
It's meaning is interpretive. It could mean that after watching Greg shave his legs Matt would now like to see him in a sports bra. It could also mean that an athletic Mansfield seeks extra support. Or, it simply could mean nothing and is a sick attempt at humor. That's your call.
But, let's not forget about Don. He shouldn't escape our microscope. Why should he be just a few heartbeats away from steering this ship?
Again, Don is much like Steve. He's smart. Actually, and this is just between us, we think he's too smart. He knows journalism -- so much so that he now teaches it. What's that about? Shaping minds? Molding futures? Please. And, Don is nice. As Greg was prepped for this piece he recalled a time he and Don shared a slice of life in an airport, "almost bonding" Greg said. "He was really nice and bright. But, the more the makers of this film prodded me it became apparent that leadership -- especially the kind SND needs -- can't be nice. It needs to be arrogant, self-absorbing and out of touch. I guess that's why they contacted me."
So, as you can see, this campaign is no fly-by-night affair. This was thought out. This is swift-boating at its keenest.
If you have questions about the platform or want to hear juicy gossip about any SND member, please post your query here. We'll do our best to tell the truth.
After all, we're journalists.

Greg Swanson for SND

For a better SND from Concerned Designers on Vimeo.

What we stand for . . .

We believe in Truth, Justice and the Comics.

We believe in the inalienable right to good type, not the crap that comes off of the Adobe discs.

We believe in high fiber . . . good scotch . . . that the blog postings of Robb Montgomery are self-indulgent, overrated crap.

We believe that Harris Siegel acted alone.

We believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Comic Sans and Arial.

And finally, we believe in long, clean, deep runs of text uninterrupted by "points of entry."

Who we are.

We are the Concerned Union of Designers.

We are CUD.
